Metal Items Found In Halloween Candy

The RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador are reminding parents and caregivers to carefully inspect Halloween candy after receiving three reports of small metal items found inside treat-sized Coffee Crisp chocolate bars in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Police say the reports were received following trick-or-treating on Saturday night, and an investigation is underway to determine the source of the affected treats.
As children prepare to enjoy their Halloween candy, parents and trusted adults are reminded to thoroughly inspect all treats for signs of tampering or manufacturing defects.
Police also recommend ensuring packaging is intact and that treats are from recognizable, trusted commercial brands.
Anyone who has concerns that a treat may have been tampered with is asked to set it aside and contact their local police detachment immediately.
RCMP also encourages parents to educate their children to know how to identify suspicious items and to let an adult inspect items that look like tampering may have taken place.
Anyone who identifies similar candy is asked to contact the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP detachment at 709-896-3383 or 1-800-709-RCMP (7267).
